EVO stands for Evolution – a genuine step forward in the field of traditional solid steel copper-coated welding wires for MIG/MAG processes. This development has enabled Italfil S.p.A. to create a range of uncoppered/bare welding wires that not only match the performance of copper-coated wires (conductivity, feeding behaviour, oxidation protection etc.) but even surpass their quality while eliminating the associated disadvantages.
This achievement is the result of advancements in the production process, the selection of raw materials, and the introduction of new treatments and processing methods up to the finished wire ready for packaging.
Extensive study, research, testing and investment in skilled personnel and machinery have made it possible to revolutionise the technology used until now, giving rise to a completely new range of wires manufactured entirely through a dry-drawing process.
Every production step has been carefully analysed to identify the best technical solutions, both in the materials used and in the processing methods.
The advantages of these wires are numerous. Feeding and wire guidance are highly consistent, allowing for a more stable welding arc and a significant reduction in maintenance and downtime.
Arc initiation is immediate and stabilises in a shorter time compared to the highest quality copper-coated wires currently available on the market.

The stick-out remains constant, preventing the wire from sticking to the nozzle during long welding operations and avoiding interruptions in the process.
A significant reduction in spatter, combined with a considerable decrease in silicate formation, further enhances the advantages of this unique and high-performance wire. These benefits contribute to an improved aesthetic quality of the weld bead and a reduction in welding defects.
The wire performs equally well in applications with long or highly curved conduit runs.
Also performs well in applications with long or highly curved conduit runs.
We can now consider the ecological aspect. Tests conducted at the Italian Institute of Welding compared two wires of the same diameter produced from the same heat/lot, with the only difference being the surface coating: one with the traditional copper coating and the other uncoppered/bare.
The tests, performed in accordance with EN ISO 15011-1, showed that the uncoppered/bare wire reduced fume emission rates (FER) by approximately 8% and achieved a significant reduction in copper emissions, from 0.373 mg to 0.095 mg.
